1. About these terms

These terms apply to the SnapCookBook app (listed on the App Store as "SnapCookBook: Recipe Keeper") and this website. They add to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which also applies to your use of the app. By using SnapCookBook you agree to both.

2. What SnapCookBook does

SnapCookBook helps you keep a personal recipe library: you can scan recipes from cookbooks, cards and printouts, type recipes in, organise them and cook from them. It's provided for your personal, non-commercial use.

3. Free and Pro

The free version includes 5 Scans every week (the week starts with your first Scan and lasts 7 days), unlimited recipes you type in, Cookbooks, Collections, search, iCloud sync and library backup. A Scan counts only when it produces a recipe.

SnapCookBook Pro adds unlimited Scans (subject to a fair-use limit of about 300 Scans a month to prevent abuse), Cook Mode with serving scaling, sharing and printing recipes, and new Pro features as we release them. We may add, change or remove features over time; we'll make reasonable efforts to tell you about changes that affect what you've paid for.

Pro is available as:

  • Monthly, billed every month
  • Yearly, billed every 12 months, with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers
  • Lifetime, a single purchase with no recurring billing

Prices are shown in the app, in your local currency, before you buy.

Automatic renewal

Monthly and Yearly are auto-renewable subscriptions. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. A subscription renews automatically unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel your subscription in Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.

Free trial

The free trial is available once per Apple Account to subscribers who haven't used an introductory offer for SnapCookBook Pro. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription starts and you're charged the standard price. Any unused part of a trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.

Payments, refunds and restoring purchases

Purchases are processed by Apple under Apple's terms. Refunds are requested from Apple. You can restore a previous purchase in the app's Settings.

4. Your recipes and content

Recipes, notes and photos you add remain yours. They're stored on your device and in your iCloud (see our Privacy Policy); you're responsible for keeping your own backups, which you can make with the library backup in Settings.

Many cookbooks and recipes are protected by copyright. SnapCookBook is meant for keeping copies of recipes for your own personal use. Don't use it to copy and distribute other people's copyrighted work, and only share recipes where you have the right to.

5. Scanning accuracy

Scanning uses automated text recognition and AI models, which can make mistakes, such as a wrong quantity, a missing step or a misread ingredient. SnapCookBook highlights lines it's unsure about, but it can't guarantee that every recipe is correct. Always check a scanned recipe against the original, especially quantities, cooking temperatures and times, and anything that matters for allergies, dietary needs or food safety. Scaled amounts are calculated automatically and may need adjusting.

6. Acceptable use

Don't misuse SnapCookBook: for example by trying to get around the free Scan limit or the fair-use limit, interfering with or overloading our servers, reverse engineering the service where the law doesn't allow it, or using it for anything unlawful. We may suspend access to Scanning for installations that do.

7. Availability

We work to keep SnapCookBook running well, but we can't promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. Scanning on older iPhones depends on our server and third-party AI providers. Your library keeps working on your device without them.

8. Liability

To the extent the law allows, SnapCookBook is provided "as is", and we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data (please keep a backup). If we're found liable to you, our liability is limited to the amount you paid for SnapCookBook Pro in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that can't be excluded, including under South Africa's Consumer Protection Act.

9. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. We'll change the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app. Continuing to use SnapCookBook after a change means you accept the updated terms.
